Garnet Mesa Parent Teacher Organization Meeting Notes
October 1, 2025
8:30-9:35am
- Treasurer Report
- No treasurer report this month. PTO needs a meeting with GMES admin to discuss how accounting is done.
- There aren’t any problems, but some of the accounting procedures are unclear and the Treasurer would like clarification.
- Note: directly after the PTO meeting, PTO Vice-President and Treasure had a meeting with Mr. Renfrow and office staff to discuss the accounting process.
- Book Fair
- Thank you to the following people for their exceptional help during the Book Fair:
- Taco Time for providing last minute food for the teacher’s dinner, Walmart for providing dessert and drinks, Jenny Urich for organizing Taco Time dinner, Holly Mautz for picking up dessert and drinks, Deb Brunner for running the Monday evening book fair by herself, Mr. Renfrow and Mr. Stanfield for running the Wednesday evening book fair, Rachel Reiher for helping out with setup, takedown, and general knowledge, guidance, and organizational support, Jenn and Tony Wachowicz for picking up Taco Time, setting up dinner, and setting up, taking down, and running the book fair, Franny and Bobby Esplin for setting up, running, and taking down the book fair, and Tyler Valdez for organizing dessert and drinks, and taking down book fair.
- Thank you very much! We couldn’t have pulled this off without your help!!!
- Gross sales: $4403.11
- Reward to GMES: $537.08 cash or $2010 Scholastic Dollars that can be used to purchase books from Scholastic
- Some quality issues with books Scholastic sent. Hopefully they will do better next time!
- Open Discussion
- Fundraising ideas
- Color Run, Penny Wars, other ideas?
- Restaurant fundraisers? (Restaurants give a portion of proceeds to GMES on a certain night. Would local restaurants be interested?)
- Put QR code for City Market card reimbursement in Tuesday Folders. This brings in a lot of money with very little effort
- Any ideas on how to “spruce up” Color Run?
- What are we fundraising for?
- Mr. Renfrow’s Business
- GMES (and the school district in general) is in great need of substitute teachers! Subs get paid, get a free lunch, and can work half-day or full-day shifts. If you are interested in subbing, please get in touch with Mr. Renfrow!
- Conferences went really well. Attendance was great—over 90% of students had a parent or guardian attend conferences!
- Discipline: office referrals are down, behavior seems better. Using “partner classrooms” seems to be going well, although some teachers would prefer to get more warning when a student is headed their way.
- POSSIP survey: cost of survey program went way up, GMES will build their own survey and will send it out before Fall Break.
Next meeting: Wednesday, November 19 at 8:30
